Dylan Moran.
Crazy, hilarious, insane, captivating, comedian and fantastic.
I don't think words can explain just how awesome last night was getting to see him live.

For those of you who are ignorant, I tell you to go and watch Black Books.

For those of you who know who he is, you should have gone to see him! I think that was one of the best comedy shows I have ever seen, and don't think there is going to be much that can top it.

Before it started, I really wasn't sure what to expect, but as he walked out on stage with a glass of wine and lit up a cigarette, it felt like I was at home with a favourite uncle telling me stories. A crazy Irish uncle, yet still extremely cool.

It was all so familiar, yet all so new.

Well, I suppose it is about time that I get around to writing about my weekend. I had meant to do it earlier, but this week has been flat out and am only finally getting the chance to do it now.

First things first, the Blues and Roots festival was absolutely fantastic! I had an absolute ball, tho it was tiring, I would do it again tomorrow.

Having a media pass was pretty good. Didn't have to worry about getting a good spot in the crowd to be able to see as I was right at the front between the stage and the crowd, so i only had to fight for a spot with other photographers, which wasn't all that bad :) Plus we had our own little media area where we could sit down and chill which was great. Plus there were free drinks all day, both days, which most others took advantage of as most of it was alcohol.

So much to write about, so I think I will just put a list of highlights for the weekend.
- Ben Harper!!
- Met Missy Higgins. She even signed my bag.
- Finally saw Wolfmother perform live
- Met Angus and Julia Stone
- Enjoyed the back stage BBQ organised by Triple J
- Met Sid from The Vasco Era
- John Mayer = awesome
- Met Bob Evans

It was all just so good!

For anyone who is interested, there are a bunch of pics at Perthnorg which is who i was there shooting for, here.

I also found out during the week that my flickr site was linked to here at enjoyperth.

And there is also a right up of the weekend from Perthnorg for day 1 and day 2.

Well, its definitely confirmed now. I am shooting the West Coast Blues and Roots music festival this coming weekend.
I sooo cant wait!!
I get to go in for free, see bands I love and have wanted to see live for ages (Wolfmother, Gomez, Blue King Brown) and take photos of them, and done have to worry about being shoved and pushed and everything else that happens in the crowd as I will be between them and the stage. Talk about awesome!! :)
Going to be pretty full on, but will be great.

And tomorrow is GO3, so that would be interesting. I have managed to get in on fri so I dont have worry about thousands of 'normal' people running and being generally 'newbish'. Just trade and well behaved people :)

I have just seen one worst music videos I think ever. Nothing to do with the actual content, but with the song it self.
This guy who calls himself a Christian has written a song called "The Bible Says".
It would have to be the worst case of taking something of context that I think possible. No wonder there is a lot of mistrust regarding Christians.

I have written previously about homosexuality and how I personally dont agree with it, but I dont hold that against the actual person themselves. I am still good friends with a few people who are gay, but this guy. Seriously, I am really disgusted at his attitude and that he has the audacity to put it up around the web and then complain that it has been banned from different sites such as myspace, youtube and google video.

I could go on about this a lot more. I am trully saddened by this man and what he has done.
If you want to check what I am talking about, then go here. You will soon understand what the fuss has been all about.

I am interested to know what others think.

Edit:
Well after getting all that out of my system, I have done a little bit of research and it turns out the guy who wrote the song is a 'reformed homosexual' and is some Pastor. His explination for the song is that "By letting people know that "God hates a Fag" I am doing Gods work, I'm preaching."

Yeah, whatever. All you are doing is antagonising people and giving Christianity a bad name. Totally the wrong way to go about what you are trying to do.

    <lj:music>Interpol - A time to be so small</lj:music>

For some reason, lately I have been doing a lot of thinking about pretty much everything. Maybe it is the time of year, maybe not, but there always seems to be a few things that keep coming up.

One of the biggest things is what I want to do. I think of my current job as just a holding bay. It’s ok as far as most jobs go. Has its ups and downs, and pays the bills, but there isn't really anywhere I can go. I may become a sales team leader at some point if I stay around long enough, but even that isn’t that far up the corporate ladder and I don’t really want to look back in 5 years time and be where I am now. But when I look forward as to what I want to do for a job, there is just a void. I want to finish my Social Work degree, but I don’t think that is really an option at the moment. My ideal situation would be to work full time as a photographer as that would also give me the time to study as well, but that too I can’t see happening for awhile. I have a lot to learn before I would even consider working as a photographer and then there is the fact that it has to build up. So at the moment, here I stay. Part of me likes the comfort of knowing what I am doing at the moment, but there is part of me that has had enough and just wants to pack it in and move just for something different, but fortunately (unfortunately?) I am too much of a sensible person to do that.

My love life is also something I have thought about lately. Much to the chagrin of my mother, I am still single. Most of the time this doesn’t really bother me as I am more than happy to go on doing my own little thing, but there are times that I think it would be nice to have someone I can talk to and chill with and cuddle in the winter. And then there is the fact that I am not getting any younger. My father at my age had been married for at least 4 years and I am pretty sure I was around or just about to be. I guess it doesn’t make it any easier as well when most of your friends are either married, getting married or in a serious relationship.
It doesn’t help as well when I am too 'scared' (not really the right word, but it sort of works) to make a move on any young lady as I think that if they say no that it will change the dynamic of our relationship and I value their friendship too much to jeopardize it. Or maybe that is just an excuse I make up to hide behind because I really am chicken?
Asking girls out doesn’t get any easier as you get older.

I suppose that those two are really the biggest things in life at the moment. Where I go from here with either of them will change how the rest of it all plays out. Pretty scary when you think about really.

Maybe I should just stop thinking and just do. But that goes against the grain for me. I can tend to over think before i do.

And that is where I am at.
Boring for others I am sure, but decisions that will change and shape my life to come.

So last week I went and saw the latest Bond movie, which was good enough and I did enjoy, but I wanted to touch on the adds and previews before a movie starts at the cinema. It has been a little while since I went to the cinema last, but not soo long that these sort of changes would have made, well that is what I think.

I just remember a few years ago when I used to go to the movies at least twice a month, you would get a few adds, not too many that would annoy too much (you could argue that 1 is too many I suppose), but you could live with them. Then you would get a few previews which I dont really mind at all. In fact I like playing the game where you try and be the first to pick what movie it is, and you would maybe get 5-7 previews (I think). But now it seems to be reversed. You get so many adds now and maybe 2 or 3 previews. But what ever way they do it, generally this only takes up about 10 mins and if you are unlucky maybe 15. Something I can also live with.

But this all accumilated into the longest wait for a movie to start I have ever been to when I went to see Bond. I get into the cinema at 8:50 which is the time the cinema had for the movie starting. Get in my seat and wait. Watch some adds. Wait for the adds to stop. What the hell? Why are these adds not stopping. *sigh* OOer the add is finishing, maybe this is it. Nope. More adds. Whats the time? Only just after 9. And they havent even had the previews yet? Is the projectionist dead or something and the add reel is stuck? More adds. Oh, its only 10 past 9. I guess I shouldnt be so impatient :p Oh yay! Another add! I am so happy! That 10 bucks was the best I ever spent to come and watch adds!! I am going to do this again tomorrow!
Oh yay! Now we have previews.

Seriously, it was at least 25 mins from the time the adds started till the movie finally rolled onto the big screen.
What the hell is with that? Seeing as the movie is over 2 and half hours long as it is, do we really need to sit through almost 30 mins of adds before it starts?

I used to really love going to the movies. And people wonder why movie piracy is so big.

Dont mind me, I am off to watch the preview screener of Happy Feet in the compfort of my lounge with no adds, and cheaper popcorn.

Before I get into my rant/discussion, I must warn everyone that this post contains spoilers regarding a as yet to be screened episode of The O.C.

So here I am, sitting at my computer at 6am in the morning after getting home from a lan and having not yet gone to sleep, so I decide to watch the latest ep of The OC that I downloaded.
Mistake number 1*. Yep. To be honest, this show is absolute crap, yet for some reason I just cant stop watching it. I think the are beaming some sort of addictive narcotic through the program.
Anyways, I think they should have ended The OC with season 3. Up till then, the show was ok (though i still wish they had less Marisa, i suppose that is one thing the new series has going for it) as it wrapped everything up with all the characters and we could all go home feeling a little sad for everyone as they were saddened at the loss of a friend and daughter and what not, but we knew that they would survive, even if it was only for one more fantastic Chrismika miracle. But no, they had to go and start season 4.

Mistake number 2**.
And here they jump the shark. (For those who don’t know that this, for a brief but informative history lesson, please read this wiki article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump_the_shark I am sure you will find this enlightening.) Now instead of us getting to believe that everything is fine with the characters, we now have to "go through" the pain and suffering that is getting over the death of Marisa (not sure why, if it was me, I would have had a week long party) and everything that goes with that. Then for some reason, the writers decided in their most infinite wisdom that the best way for Ryan to get over his grief is to give him a new love life to help forget all about what has happened (I want to forget about Marisa too and she isn’t even real :/). 'Sure, why not? Sounds like a good idea', I hear you say, and while it is a good idea, it doesn’t mean they can’t stuff that up which leads us to...

Mistake number 3!*** and shark jumping number 2. Ep 5 starts off with a darkened shot with Taylor washing the window in a white and wet shirt being all sexy with music playing. OMG!! What are you trying to do? Why not just rub salt into my wounds and then dunk me in vinegar? Why would you set Taylor and Ryan up? Hasn’t the guy gone through enough with having to have a skanky drunk crack whore (apologies to any crack whores reading this, I am sure you are really nice and don’t deserve to be compared to Marisa either) for a gf for 3 years and all the trouble that she always caused? So now you put him with the most opposite of personalities? Well at least she isn’t a skank, I will give you that.
So ,moving on, otherwise I will be rambling here for weeks.

Mistake number 4**** and shark jumping 3 (here lies the spoiler) where we find Taylor and Ryan having a little tiff about not being bf/gf or whatever. Anyways, they end up in a coma. Now if I can work out what is happening and what is going to happen exactly in a tv ep within the first 5 minutes, the seriously, wtf!?? Were the writers having a week off that week and so they decided to find the most used idea in any movie or other tv show and realised they hadn’t done it and thought, what the hell!? Why not? it worked only 3 eps earlier with the stages of denial crap they did.

*sigh* Why do they insist on milking something till it just dries up and then leaves a sour taste in your mouth I will never know. Surely someone over there has a soul they haven’t already sold or given away and will know when to end a show?

Well thus ends my rant. Sorry it is soo long, but I just had to get it out there.
So on that note, at 7am, I must be off to bed.

*My mistake :(
**Thankfully not mine. If i made that crap, I think i would get my self arrested for crimes againts humanity or something.
***Please, someone, get me the address of these writers! I know a 3 year old who comes up with better stories, all be it that they generally contain ponies and rainbows, but at least they don’t SUCK!
****I think I died a little inside watching it all

Well as many of you may or may not know, I really dont like watching Aussie TV. Quite frankly because it sucks. We get shows up to 2 years later than the US, if at all and there are all these annoying adds.
So I download everything that I watch. This has its mixed blessings in the fact that I dont get adds (yay!!) and I get the shows hours after they aired in the US or UK (double yay!) but to be honest, I tend to watch more than if I was watching them on TV.
So, I have deceided to provide a small community service for all those people who watch shows on TV and let them know what to watch out for.

Heroes: This would have to be my current favorite show. It just rocks! The premise is that some people around the world are discovering that they have certain gifts and abilities which seem to be developing in people with a specific genetic mutation (and no this is not an X-men rip off). You have a young cheerleader who can regenerate and put herself back together, sort of an ultimate healing factor, a Japanese guy who can bend space and time and a guy running for the US senate who can fly, amoung many others.
I think what makes this show so good is the way the story is told. Everyone is just a normal person who is trying to live life normally and then suddenly having to deal with this special gift. Every episode you find out a little more about each person and you can see everything coming to gether as people meet and work out what they are meant to do. The main story that everythign revolves around is that the Hiro (the space time dude) traveled to the future and saw a huge explostion in New York and then sets off to stop it from happening.
In some ways the story telling is a little like Lost as they like to keep their hand close to their chest and dont let much go, but at least in this show they answer questions :)
My verdict: What this as soon as it comes out!! Or better yet, get me to burn it for you as it is more awesome :)

Day Break: This one has only just started recently and so I have only seen three episodes, but it seems like it could be a really good show. The plot on this one is similar to Groundhog Day where this cop is repeating the same day over and over again, but this one is a little more serious. When he wakes up on this particular day for the first time, he finds out that he has been framed for the murder of a prosecutor of a current high profile case. Each day that repeats he is finding out that that everything that is happening is connected and there are a lot of people involved. I guess that is the easiest way to explain it as there is just so much that seems to be happening. He also has to deal with his police partner who is being investigated by internal affairs, his partner being killed by whoever is setting him up (he is able to stop that tho) and then the effects of what ever he does different each day.
Verdict: Ask me in a few more weeks, but at the moment, this is pretty cool.

Psych: This show is funny as. It is about a guy who as a kid, his dad (who was a cop) taught him to notice everything about his suroundings. One day this ended up getting him in trouble as he phoned in a tip to the cops who then assumed that he would have to be involved to know what he told them. To get himself out of trouble he said that he was psychic and gave a 'demonstration' to prove it. So now he works freelance for the police as their offical psychic.
A lot of the humour comes from the interation between him and the main detective who doesnt like him at all and does not believed that he is psyhic.
Verdict: I love this show. Cleverly writen and a joy to watch.

Well I think that will do for the moment. But dont forget that Lost, Veronica Mars, Scrubs and Bones are all on going series worthy of your attention too :)

Was most awesome.
I went to a Wii (new Nintendo console for those living under a rock for the past year) retail preview that was held at the WACA as I was lucky enough to be invited by a store (maybe I spend too much there :/) to come with them.

I would have to say the highlight was getting to play the new Zelda. I only got to have a quick play (as there were about 50 others waiting to play as well) but it only made me want to play it even more. I think it is going to be well worth the 5 year (has it really been that long?) wait between drinks. JJ and Justin got to do some fishing (it is one of the many side mini games you can do) which looked really strange doing (and I am sure felt just as a weird) but was oh so awesome. You pretty much have to mimic everthing from casting, jiggling the line and then reeling it in.

The second thing that was a must try for me was Wario Ware: Smooth Moves as all the previous Wario Ware games are wierd, wacky but so much fun. And I can tell you now, this one fits right in there at the top. I got to put showed people with champane (after shaking it of course), put a finger in a nose and putt amongst other things. I can see this one being extremely popular.

Over all, it was great just being able to have a play with the system and seeing exactly what it can do. Tho, I do have to admit that I was really surprised with the Wii-mote (the main controller) and the nunchuck. I knew that direct movement was played directly to the screen with no lag or anything, but i was surprised and just how good it is. It can meassure you going closer and further away from the screen as well as how fast you move it in any direction but the top also senses if there is something over it. When I popped the champane, the cork didnt pop untill i lifted my thumb. Most cool!

As it was said on the night, it is hard to explain to someone unless they have experienced it themselves.

So, only 28 days till it comes out. Go and pre-order yours today, you wont be disapointed!! :D
